Megan

A severely burned and frightened tiny Sheltie finds herself dumped at an animal shelter.
To her rescue came Ann Acuff of Middle Tennessee Sheltie Rescue.
Her journey from injured and scared to healthy and in a loving home is nothing short of a miracle.

Early October, 2003

It all started with a phone call to Ann Acuff about a Sheltie in a nearby animal shelter. As always she responded to the call and went to pick her up. She was horrified to find that the area over this little dog's back which appeared to be matted was hiding chemical burns extending over a large portion of her back. She was rushed to the vet where intensive treatment began on this tiny Sheltie Ann named Megan.

Mid October, 2003

Wonderful treatment in the vet clinic, pain meds, and many, many prayers have this girl healing at a wonderful pace. It was first thought that Megan would need a skin graft for the larger wound area, but it appears now as if she might not need it. She has much more emotional healing to do as she is still so very shy and untrusting of the people around her. She has what appears to be a puppymill tattoo in her ear which would explain the extreme shyness as the majority of dogs that make it out of life in a puppymill suffer from lack of socialization.

Late October, 2003

Megan gets released from the vet clinic after a 20 day stay! The vets call her recovery amazing. It's definite; Megan will not need surgery for the larger wound! Ann will continue her treatment at her home now. Hopefully Megan will start to realize that no one is going to hurt her ever again.

Early November, 2003

Megan's back continues to heal wonderfully. Ann continues to clean and treat her wounds at home. The wound is down to the size of a nickel! Just amazing when you consider the size of the area affected in the beginning. Megan is slowing starting to show signs of being curious about the world around her. She made eye contact with Ann for the first time and barked and wagged her tail.

Mid November, 2003

Mid November, 2003 Megan's back is healed! This is so wonderful and miraculous. The vets can hardly believe it. Ann is starting to put 'feelers' out to find this special girl a wonderful, caring, and understanding home. Although Megan continues to make slow progress 'coming out of her shell,' she has a long, long way to go and will need a family that understands this. Her 'outside' healing is about all done, but she has tons of healing to do on the inside.

Late November, 2003

Megan gets adopted!!! Ann knows that it will be so hard to let her go. This difficult time is made a little easier because Megan is getting adopted by someone on one of Ann's internet lists. The good news is that Ann will have frequent updates to how this tiny princess is doing. The weekend before Thanksgiving, Debbie, Megan's new mom-to-be, flew in from Seattle. She and little Megan meet and it's a match made in heaven. Debbie can't wait to take her home to meet her husband and Megan's new canine sisters and brother.

Ann thanks everyone (and there were so many) for the prayers, donations, cards, and toys for this special girl. The outpouring of love for her was just amazing.

Megan starts a whole new life (her update)
