Cricket & Sammie

Sammie & Cricket

My first thought this morning w hen I was having to clean up after two puppies was, what was I thinking?
Having three dogs instead of two! But seeing the two sisters play so sweetly together, we are so thrilled to reunite
Sammie with Cricket. Of course Sammie is a sweetheart, sister or not.
She is doing very well adjusting to her new family.

Ally & Cricket

Cricket and Sammie play well together, though Sammie is sometimes odd man out when Ally is around;
the bond between Cricket and Ally is stronger. When Ally is not around, the two sisters act very affectionate
and playful with one another, with an occasional minor spat. Ally is reserved with Sammie, as she was
when we first brought Cricket, but I'm sure they will all play together happily. It is very sweet to see Ally running
with her full tail waving in the wind, with the girls chasing behind her with their
skinny little puppy tails wagging full speed and then leaping onto her!

Ally & Cricket

In the morning we all played in the kiddie pool and tried to engage the neighbor's cat in play.
After lunch and nap we played out in the backyard near the creek in the woods. So this afternoon all three dogs
were very tired and subdued, but Sammie least so. Since there was quiet in the house I took the opportunity to 'play school' as I call it with the dogs. She was most interested in the treats I had pulled out and therefore became the focus of my attention
for a period of time. Sammie learned 'sit' and 'stay' today with clicker training in a short time! It didn't take long for her to nudge the clicker with her nose to get me to click it and give her a treat! She is definitely motivated by food rewards.

When I thought I would quit so as not to push too hard, she made it clear she wanted more.
So we also worked on 'down' and 'shake' and 'come'. Throughout, Cricket remained in a perfect and dainty little sit,
looking on with focus ed concentration and a confident air that she already knew these lessons.
She soon became bored and proceeded to go to sleep while I continued the lessons with Sammie.
Ally chose to watch while 'volunteering' to demonstrate 'lie down' and occasionally 'dead dog'.
Her eyes also were drooping, but she looked lively when treats were being distributed to Sammie,
to ensure she was not overlooked for her good behavior!

Sammie & Cricket w/ their "Auntie Ann"

The sisters are inseparable. They play, eat, and sleep side by side, usually as close to one another as they can get.
Sammie seems like she is going to be a big tomboy. She's still a little awkward in her movements because
she of her size, but she is very athletic. I will have to buy taller baby gates for the kit chen because I think soon
Sammie will be able to jump over them. She gets a running start and then uses the gate for leverage in an attempt to vault!

Cricket continues to be a dainty little princess. She just stands up at the gate and barks to be let out and then sits there looking sweet, knowing she will be picked up.Sammie is more demonstrative in her affection.
The other day the pups were in the kitchen for awhile when I was busy. When I came in the kitchen and sat down with them,
Sammie came over to me and gave me a big hug and kiss on the ear. It was so sweet!
